Traffic accident statistics 2023

As expected, the development of accident figures in 2023 is at the "pre-corona level" of 2018 and 2019. Positive trends that we were still able to identify in 2022 have largely not been maintained or have even been significantly reversed. Nevertheless, improvements in accident trends can also be observed.
As already explained last year, the accident situation in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district in 2023 depends on the specific local circumstances. Both overall figures for the district and individual regional observations are presented below. Measured against developments in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as a whole, some trends in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district are clearly contrary to the state trend. These include in particular the decline in the number of accidents involving young people and young adults.
